According to projections by the United Nations Population Division, the number of people worldwide aged 60 and older is expected to triple by 2050. This sudden shift on demographics, while it will create challenges in maintaining financial security for populations, will also provide vast opportunities to capitalize on the talents and skills of older persons. Thus, to ensure adequate retirement income for the 21st century, one must promote employment and engagement among older adults and develop new strategies.

Changing perceptions about retirement, employment and aging requires a sustained, concerted effort from all stakeholders. Government, business, labor, NGOs, the media and individuals all have a role to play.
